Experience
Building businesses through growth and change
Growth, production change, commercial partnerships and founding businesses have put different demands on my judgment.
Retail leadership · Kindling
Helping a growing retailer deliver.
At Kindling, I lead retail and technology in regulated cannabis retail. During substantial business growth, I have worked with the team to develop the purchasing, digital retail, training and store-opening capabilities supporting the organization.
That work includes shared processes and store-opening coordination. I also led the development of store-specific replenishment tools that bring sales, inventory and supply information into recommendations for people to review before submission.
The growth and delivery are shared achievements. My focus is on connecting the commercial direction with the decisions, people and tools needed to carry it through.
Business transformation · Sourcing and production
Sourcing strategy and production automation.
I developed a long-term sourcing and production strategy covering food-production facilities, automated lines and distribution, working with cross-functional teams in North America and Europe. The plan received executive approval.
My production-automation work included implemented bakery production lines that reduced labour hours.
Commercial partnerships · Supply continuity
Developing suppliers and securing supply.
My commercial work includes joint business planning with suppliers. That work was associated with sales growth. I also delivered training for associates and suppliers in Retail Link and decision-support tools.
In a separate supply transition, a seafood supplier’s exit created a product-availability challenge. I worked to secure replacement supply, and a replacement arrangement was established to support continued availability.
Entrepreneurship · Ecommerce and mobile products
Building businesses of my own.
I founded Sleep Science and Lizard Emotion, with work spanning ecommerce operations and mobile products. These ventures add the experience of building businesses to my work in established retailers.
A founder has to connect the product with the customer and the work of bringing it to market. I value the discipline that requires: deciding what matters, where to focus effort and which assumptions still need testing.
